The initial Resource Management Plans (RMPs) were the result of a year-long collaborative effort between PLPCO, the Commission for the Stewardship of Public Lands, State natural resource agencies, and each county in Utah. The county plans (CRPMs) were completed in 2017 and several counties have amended their plans since that time. The preparation of the State plan (SRMP) in January 2018 was preceded by the completion of 29 unique CRMPs. This effort was a first-of-its-kind effort not only in Utah, but nationwide. The state and the counties frequently use their plans to coordinate management actions with the Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service.
Looking forward, PLPCO will be working with counties and other stakeholders to add new content on access to public lands, renewable energy, utility corridors, pipelines and infrastructures, critical minerals, shared stewardship, and free-roaming horse and burro management.
PLPCO will also be working on a web-based platform for the public, counties, and federal agencies to utilize for statewide resources during their decision-making processes.
